Mitsis Faliraki is a 5-star, all-inclusive resort on the northeast coast of Rhodes. Faliraki was once a quiet fishing village, but thanks to its proximity to Rhodes Town, and the extensive soft, golden sand of its beaches, it has become a lively, cosmopolitan resort offering something for everyone, from families who want a quiet holiday, to singles looking for some night life to balance out their quiet time on the beach.
Mitsis Faliraki ranks a solid #6 out of Faliraki’s list of 84 resorts and hotels.
The layout of the resort is pretty simple: two large rectangular buildings oriented northeast-southwest, providing wonderful sunrises for those on the upper floors with sea view rooms, or sunsets for those on the upper floors with garden view rooms. The landscaping is pleasantly simple and exotic, featuring lots of palm trees and an extensive lawn leading down to the beach which is decorated with ample thatched umbrellas and sunbeds.
Mitsis Faliraki boasts 348 rooms, 20 swimming pools, 7 restaurants, 3 bars, an outdoor gym, a gym, tennis and basketball courts and all kinds of water sports. There is a kids club to keep the little ones busy. Rooms were upgraded in 2022-2023 with contemporary furnishings and smart technology.
Some of the many amenities at Mitsis Faliraki include a library, a post office, 24-hour security, a popcorn and a cotton candy cart, daily newspapers and magazines, a currency exchange, a play and game arcade, a playground, an on-site doctor, and free sunbeds and umbrellas. If you desire to go a little further afield, you can catch a bus at the stop right in front of the hotel for an excursion to Rhodes Town, 14 km to the north.
By and large, travelers loved their experience at this resort, and praise it for cleanliness, comfort, and attentive service. Guests also loved the buffet selections, the drinks, the kids club, the evening entertainment options, and (don’t minimize this) its lack of mosquitoes.
Rooms
As mentioned, rooms have been recently updated, re-furnished, and modernized. Rooms are large and comfortable. Many rooms have beautiful hidden cornice lighting which runs along the tops of the walls, disguising the junction of wall and ceiling and providing soft, indirect, suffused lighting throughout the room. Walls in some rooms can be vertical, lightly finished and stained wood paneling, pastel yellow or light rose plaster, or pastel blue with matching drapes and bedspreads. These tastefully decorated rooms have drapery complementing the color scheme of the sheets, upholstery and bed headboards, creating a restful environment for the eye. Some rooms have bathrooms walled off with glass block, allowing the free flow of light while preserving privacy. Many rooms have wall-sized mirrors. Rooms are equipped with private balconies or verandas offering spectacular views. Upon requests, guests can choose their pillows.
Amenities are what you’d expect in any 5-star resort, including HD satellite TV, bathrobes, towels, slippers, individually controlled AC, beach and pool towels, coffee and tea makers, daily cleaning services, hair dryer, drying rack, magnifying mirror, sewing kit, laundry bag, stationary, envelopes, shoe horn and shoe polish, mini fridge, safe deposit, and high-speed Wi-Fi among others.
Twin Rooms
There are five options:
Land View, which faces inland and gives one beautiful sunsets.
Side Sea View, which gives a bit of both worlds, land and sea.
Sea View, overlooking the lush grounds and allows guests to enjoy the sunrise over the sparkling waters of the Mediterranean.
Sharing Pool, in which guests share a private pool with another room.
Private Pool, in which guests have a small pool all to themselves.
Quadruple Rooms
Quadruple rooms are large and comfortable, and perfect if you have small kids. There is a king size bed for the adults, and bunk beds for the kids.
Quadruple rooms offer two categories: Land View and Sea View
Family Land View
These spacious rooms are like small apartments. They provide two separate, closed-off sleeping areas, offering privacy for the parents, or for a second pair of adults.
Food and Drink
Dress code: All of the resort’s restaurants require casual smart, or as the resort terms it, “island chic” dress, in which what you should not wear is a lot easier to remember than what is permitted. In other words, everything is permitted except for shorts and sleeveless tops. So break out those lime-green sans a belts and a nice Hawaiian floral print short sleeve shirt and you’ll be just fine.
The Main restaurant is open all day, starting with a Continental-style meal at 4 AM, then transitioning to an American Buffet a few hours later, followed by a Complete Buffet for lunch, and then another Complete Buffet for dinner time.
A Children’s Corner is available, as well as meals with specific restrictions, such as gluten-free, lactose-free, vegan and vegetarian, and other choices upon request. A Healthy corner caters to many of these needs, as well as a Vegetarian corner.
The Ellinadiko à la carte offers traditional Greek mezedes or appetizers such as saganaki, xidato (vinegar) octopus, and Greek salad, with main courses including roasted lamb grilled chicken, and grilled seasonal fish.
Italian à la carte is near poolside features a wide range of pasta prepared in various ways, risottos and wood oven-fired pizzas among many others, with tiramisu and cannoli and much more for dessert.
Tex-Mex à la carte is another poolside venue, offering traditional tacos, nachos and fajitas, as well as churros and Mexican caramel flan for dessert.
The Pan Asian à la carte is a third poolside restaurant and offers a gastronomical tour of the Far East, with offerings from China, Thailand, India, and Japan.
Pita Burger à la carte has Greek and international food choices, such as gyros, souvlaki, hamburgers, as well as coleslaw and Caesar salads.
The Creperie-Gelateria sits under a spacious awning near the pool and has sweets from around the globe, including a couple dozen sweet and savory crepe choices, and all kinds of ice cream.
Bars
The Main Bar can be found in the main building, near the shops, and offers the quietest spot in the resort.
There you can choose from a wide variety of signature cocktails, spritzes, aperitifs, and various other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
The Pool Bar allows you to relax in the shade at side of the main pool and spend time comparing the shade of blue in the sky and seeing if it matches the shade of blue of the pool. Bring the whole family, treat the kids to a soft drink while you refresh yourself with a beer or something a little stronger.
A bit closer to nature is the Beach Bar, where you can kick back, study the waves rolling onto the golden sand of the beach, sip your favorite beverage, and glory in the natural surroundings and peaceful environment of one of Greece’s best islands.

In the Area
This roughly oval-shaped island is the 4th largest in Greece. Its capital, Rhodes Town (pop. 50,000), at the northeastern tip of the island, is only 10 miles (16 km) from the coast of Turkey. Rhodes has many things to offer- sun-drenched beaches, crystal-clear water, an extensive, multi-cultural history, world-renowned night life, museums, architecture from several different epochs- all of which explains why it is the most popular of the Dodecanese, and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. There are so many facets to this jewel of the Eastern Mediterranean that it is like a small, self-contained country. Which, in fact, is what it was for most of its 4,000-year history.
Rhodes Town
As mentioned, Rhodes Town is a short bus ride from Mitsos Faliraki, and the bus stops just outside the resort’s main doors. The Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, once stood in Rhodes harbor. It was supposed to have stood 160 feet tall (50m), including its pedestal, about half the height of the Statue of Liberty.
The Old Town is one of the largest, best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. Its dimensions are about .6 mile (1000 m) east-to-west, and .4 mile (660 m) north-to-south. That makes it easy to explore on foot. To step through the Gate of Freedom into Old Town is to enter a place that is a fascinating mix of cultures, civilizations, and architectural traditions. It is an immensely charming place of old fountains, narrow, stone-paved streets bordered by buildings with Gothic arches, charming little cafes on its many compact public squares, Byzantine-era churches, medieval mosques, and massive stone walls and gates.
The New Town, built on the island's northern tip, is thoroughly modern- or at least relatively modern. It is the administrative and commercial center of the Dodecanese. A lot of New Town was built during the Italian era. There are venerable old neo-classical buildings next to modern construction, all of which reflect Rhodes' cosmopolitan character.
There are all kinds of night life in New Town, and hundreds of bars, nightclubs, tavernas, and restaurants. New Town is clean and well-kempt, more so than the average Greek city. The New Market, by the harbor, is an heptagonal (7-sided) building with a courtyard in the center where fish was sold. The market now has nice cafes with plush, comfortable seating. Landward, the area between the New Market and Old town features a park-like, tree-shaded area featuring street vendors and street artists willing to do a portrait or caricature of the visitors.
Above the city to the southwest is the Ancient Acropolis, containing a few standing columns from the Temple of Apollo. Sitting 150 feet (45 m) above the city, the Acropolis had been an integral part of Ancient Rhodes. Surrounding the acropolis on this promontory is beautiful Rodini Park, with magnificent trees, walkways, grottos, and shallow caves.
Elsewhere on Rhodes
South of Mitsis Faliraki about 3 miles (5km) on the coast is the village of Theologos. Just a few miles southeast of Theologos is a wild animal preserve popularly known as the Valley of the Butterflies, where millions swarm in the elevated forest from late spring to early autumn. The Valley of the Butterflies is 17 miles (27 km) from Rhodes Town.
South of Mitsis Faliraki, halfway down the east coast of Rhodes is Lindos, the third of the 3 ancient city-states of Rhodes, which is now the second favorite destination of the island. Its acropolis is similar, geologically, to the Athens Acropolis: a steep up thrust of rock surrounded by dwellings, in this case the cubistic, Cycladic architecture of the Greek islands.
On the west coast, Ancient Kameiros, 19 miles (30 km) west of Rhodes Town, and one of the three major city-states in ancient times, was re-discovered in 1929. The city appears to have suffered sudden and catastrophic destruction, and thus is known as the Pompeii of Greece. From Kameiros Skala, 6 miles (10 km) down the west coast from Kameiros, there are boats available to the small offshore island of Halki, which features Hellenistic ruins, and the Monastery of the Virgin Mary, built atop a 3rd century BC temple to Athena. Many of the artifacts from Halki were carted off to The British Museum and the Louvre in Paris.
The remainder of the west coast, which is the Aegean coast of Rhodes, features plenty of quiet beaches and pure, azure waters ideal for swimming or scuba diving.
As you can see, Mitsis Faliraki, and Rhodes in general, offer a multitude of things to see in do for any holiday, which makes the difficult part of any trip there choosing what not to see, and to save the unseen sights of Rhodes for the next trip there.
