Mitsis Norida is an all-inclusive 5-star resort and spa at the midpoint of the south coast of Kos, which is one of the larger of the Dodecanese islands in the southeast Aegean, not far from the coast of Turkey. This 2025 Tripadvisor Traveler’s Choice award winner is a beautifully designed and laid out facility fronting a Blue Flag award-winning beach.
The buildings of the resort are arranged in the shape of a capital letter “C,” with the open end of the C facing the Mediterranean. Within the enclosure of this “C” is an eye-catching arrangement of 5 “new concept” free-form swimming pools bordered by various palm trees and thatched umbrellas, from which the grounds slope down gently for 50 meters or so to the beach (New concept pools features include swim-up bars, infinity edges, advanced water management, and emphasize interesting visuals and enhanced guest engagement).
Mitsis Norida’s grounds feature 8,000 plants on its landscaped grounds, 3 themed restaurants, a pool bar and a beach bar. The resort has 455 beautifully appointed rooms. Some extras for guests re junior and mini clubs for kids of all ages, 2 kids pools with water slides, and all kinds of sports and fitness offerings for grown-ups.
The resort has 6 restaurants, 5 bars, a coffee and a tea bar, and all kinds of snack options. There’s a fitness center to work off all that food, and a first class spa to help guest feel in tip-top condition.
Amenities include Fitness classes, Aerobics, tennis court, water park, kids’ outdoor playground, sun loungers, umbrellas and beach chairs, and laundry and ironing services, amongst others.
Guests give Mitsis Norida overwhelmingly good reviews, citing its tranquil setting, friendly service, great sea views, room cleanliness and comfy sun beds. One guest called it “the beast beach hotel in Kos” because of its convenience to the sea. After contrasting the steep gradients and far distance from the sea of other 5-star resorts on Kos, the guest waxes poetic with “The Norida gently flows like a meandering river from the hotel down to the beach and that’s why we came back for our second time here.
Rooms
There are 5 categories of rooms, arranged according to view and size. Décor features, in most cases, light beige tile or marble floors, off-white walls, and some other color (usually blue), for the upholstery, bed headboard, draperies, door frames, shutters, etc. Some balconies feature low masonry walls on their borders, with arches supporting the roof of the balcony or rectangular columns. The Sea View rooms are spectacular; the islands southwest-facing orientation allows for beautiful indirect sunlight in the afternoons and sunsets paint the waves in sparkling shades of yellow orange. But the Land View rooms are really nice as well, especially on the upper floors which allow unobstructed views of the 1500 foot-high (450m) ridge line behind the property. By the same token, lower-level rooms of both the land and sea variety offer views of the very well-kempt and landscaped grounds and pools.
Room amenities include, among other things, individually controlled AC, beach and pool towels, coffee and tea making facilities, daily cleaning, towel rack, satellite TV with 40 channels, laundry bag, envelopes and stationery, safe deposit box, Wi-Fi, scale, hair dryer, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner, shower gel, and slippers.
Twin Rooms
25m2 (270 sq. ft.) Sleeps up to 3.
The Direct Sea View rooms can be found on the 1st and 2nd floors of the Main Building. The view is directly to the sea, about a hundred meters away, and not at sort of angle, like some other Sea View rooms. Garden View and Sea View rooms are pretty self-explanatory.
Bungalow Rooms
28m2 (300 sq. Ft.) Sleeps up to 3.
Bungalow rooms offer twin beds and three categories: Garden View, Sea View, Sea View Front. The most interesting of these 3 views are the Sea View Front rooms. These rooms offer some of the closest access to the sea in the resort. There is a ground-level patio, the gentle slope of the lawn, and the beach. It’s literally about a ten-second walk. The Sea View rooms are a floor or two above ground level.
Family Rooms
34m2 (365 sq. ft.) Sleeps 4.
The two categories of Family Rooms are Sea View and Garden Access.
These rooms come with two sleeping areas, which make them ideal for families. There is the master bedroom for the parents with a smaller sleeping space with two single beds for the kids. Areas are divided by a door. The Garden Access Family Rooms open directly onto a small ground level patio with sunbeds on the lawn just off the patio, and the pools a few steps further on. This gives guests two access points to the room which makes getting to the pools and other areas very convenient. Sea View is above ground floor level.
Family Suites
40m2 (430 sq. ft.) Sleeps up to 4.
Family Suite rooms come in two categories: Garden View and Sea View. The layout is perfect for families, with two sleeping areas and a total of 4 beds. Bring the kids, or bring some friends.
Maisonette Rooms
60m2 (645 sq. ft.) Sleeps up to 4 adults plus 1 child.
These are the largest rooms on offer at Mitsis Norida.
These spacious accommodations come in styles: Sea View, Garden View, and Pool Access.
The rooms spread out over two levels connected by an interior staircase. There is a master bedroom on the upper level, with a living area equipped with two sofa beds on the lower level. The Pool Access Maisonette room means exactly that: the room opens onto a patio, and the patio ends at the pool about four steps away.

In the Area
Kos is considered the island of Hippocrates, the father of medicine.
With its archeological ruins, medieval castle, and pristine beaches, Kos has something for everyone. Kos City, on circular, narrow-mouthed harbor on the island's northeast coast, is a picturesque little place of minarets and churches, bars and bazaars, nightclubs and tavernas. The most impressive structure is Kos Castle, a fortress erected in 1315 on the east side of the harbor's mouth by the Hospitaller Knights of St. John.
Just a few km off the coast of Kos is Ancient Halicarnassus, now the Turkish city of Bodrum, home to one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World, the Tomb of Masusolus. (The term "mausoleum" is derived from this tomb, which was 45 meters high and adorned with sculpted reliefs.) The interior of Kos is quiet, undeveloped, and largely flat, which makes travel by bicycle feasible.
Kos Town
Much of Kos town was redesigned by the Italians, who ruled the island in the early 20th century.
After a major earthquake in 1933 rubble from destroyed houses were removed, exposing ruins from the time of Christ and before.
Off the landward end of the drawbridge to the castle is a small plateia whose focal point is the very old Hippocrates Plane Tree, under which tradition claims Hippocrates lectured. The current tree is about 500 years old, but is thought to be a descendant of the original which stood at that spot 2400 years ago.
Next to the square to the south are some of the ruins uncovered by the earthquake.
The ruins of the Asklepion, a temple complex dedicated to the god of healing, are 3.5 km due southeast of Kos Town. It was part spa, part teaching facility, and part religious sanctuary. It had artesian springs, and a main Temple of Asklepion at the top terrace.
Local Beaches and Thermal Springs
Two kilometers north of Kos Town is Lambi Beach, which also is a center of night life on the island. East of Kos Town, then south, as one rounds the eastern end of the island, there are several decent beaches in an area generally called Psalidi. Rounding the end of the island, and then bending back west on its south shore, maybe 12 km from Kos Town, there is the resort area of Agios Fokas, featuring the Bros Therma springs, hot water which flows from the base of the area cliffs and mingles with the seawater in a man-made pool circumscribed by rocks in which bathers can loll around in meter-deep, warm water even in the dead of winter. It's one of the most popular spots on Kos.
Around the Island
The resort town of Kardemena, which is just next door to the resort, offers long, sandy beaches, and nightlife frequented by tourists from the UK. The town also has a combination Folk Art/Maritime Museum. From Kardemena, boats leave daily for the smaller island of Nissyros, 17 km south, which has some very nice, quiet beaches, and quiet villages unspoiled by tourists.
The far western end of Kos in largely undeveloped, and sparsely populated. Its largest settlement is Kefalos, little more than a 1 km inland from the quiet seaside village of Kamari. They're both worth a visit from the adventurous tourist who wants an off-the-beaten-path experience.
Kos, and Mitsis Norida, is a wonderful, historic, beautiful island, and well worth an extended stay.
