Psara Island and Antipsara islet lie in the northwest of Chios at a distance of 48 nautical miles from the Chios port. These two islands together with other neighboring uninhabited islets, such as Daskalio, Kato Nisi and Agios Nikolaos, form an insular grid. In the winter the population of Psara is about 500 people, whereas people stay in Antipsara only during the summer.
Psara played a significant role in the revolutionary struggle of 1821. After the islands of Hydra and Spetses, Psara had formed the third largest fleet in Greece.
In the northern part of the island you will find the monastery dedicated to “Koimisi Theotokou”, which has a notable library.
The visitor will enjoy the calmness and quiet of the island as well as the beautiful seasides with the crystal clear waters. At the picturesque port, you can choose one of the taverns to taste local home made dishes and fresh fish.
